VBS is a yearly event which involves a lively week of Bible teaching, music, worship, crafts, sports and lots of fun for local children aged 5 to 14. In 2007, VBS saw its biggest ever attendance were 580 children took part.
VBS is run on the first full ‘Monday-Friday’ week of August in the summer holidays, and starts at 9.30am, and runs straight through till 3.30pm in the afternoon. Children will normally bring their own packed lunch and drinks for the duration of the day.
VBS has its own tented village with over 10 tents covering its current site. Over the years VBS has grown considerably and has changed location a number of times. At the moment it is located on the County High School playing fields.
VBS is run by Gold Street Chapel which joins together with volunteers from most of the local Christian Churches in Saffron Walden, led by a small committee.
There is no charge to send a child to VBS although many parents do like to make a contribution. VBS relies on the support of local churches and many individuals to fund the cost VBS. (Around £11,000 or £20 per child.
